    Summary

The second game of the post season began like the first: the A’s learned at game time that a player would not be able to come, leaving the team with only 9 fielders. Regardless of the handicap, the A’s were determined to win.

The A’s got to work early in the game, netting a 3-1 lead after the first. Tony Rincon hit a 2 RBI double and A-WOL later scored him on a fielder’s choice. The sole M’s run came off of a solo HR into right field.

In the second, the A’s defense came alive, leaving the M’s scoreless. Both Jason and Dale make terrific snags off of line drives to seat the M’s batters. Kim made a great snag off of a chopper to second to get the runner out at first.

The third was a repeat of the second, as the A’s blanked the M’s was again. This time, A-WOL joined the fun, catching a pop-up and even throwing a running out at first. The offense took advantage of this opportunity and cashed in two more runs, thanks to a hit and a fielder’s choice by A-WOL and Jason, respectively.

However, the M’s battled back in the fourth, scoring 4 runs. The runs came from a solo shot HR and a 3-run shot. Regardless, the defense continued to look sharp. Kim made a terrific snag of a line drive in the second to help end the inning. Good defense continued in the fifth as the A’s blanket the M’s in the fifth. Kim got the assist on each out at second base.

After a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, the game was tied 5-all. The M’s rallied and scored 3 runs in the inning. The third run came after scary incident in which a ground ball struck the shin of A-WOL and dribbled into foul territory. A-WOL later fell to the ground in pain, but was good enough spirits to continue playing a few minutes later.

Unfortunately, neither A-WOL nor the A’s were able to do anything with that “good spirits” in the 7th as the A’s went down in order. A-WOL popped-up to second for the final out of the game as the A’s end their final game of the season 8-5.

    Highlights

  • Tony: 2 for 4 (2B) with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
  • A-WOL: 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs.
  • Allison: 2 for 4
  • Dale: pitched first complete game with the A's.

  • Web gem: A's defense kept the M's scoreless or limited to 1 run in 4 of the 6 inning of play. A's defense also gave-up the least amount of runs in a game all season.
